Steer Davies Gleave is delighted to announce the appointment of Sharon Daly, former Head of Planning at SDG, as Managing Director for their United Kingdom business.

Sharon is an Australian-born management consultant specialising in transport. An accountant by training, her career began in government working for the Department for Transport in South Australia where she focused on forward investment strategies. She moved to the UK in 2000, taking a leading role in the development of transport strategy and planning at SDG.

The Infra Deals project finance and advisory league tables, for all deals completed in Q1 2016, were published earlier this week. 

We are pleased to see that Steer Davies Gleave is ranked third by deal value in the technical advisory category.

In the last 10 years, Steer Davies Gleave’s Italian offices have recorded a significant increase in the number of organisations that have shown interest in and apply for European funding in transport. In many cases this interest is related to the reduction of available economic resources at national and local level, which drives public and private organizations to apply to European funding as means to develop their core business or statutory activities.

Steer Davies Gleave is delighted that Westminster City Council (WCC) has been successful in its application for Low Emission Neighbourhood funding for Marylebone. Steer Davies Gleave worked with officers, the local neighbourhood and community groups, business improvements districts and land owners to develop the bid.

Moves to deregulate at EU level and in a number of Member States have triggered changes in the provision of international and domestic coach services. Regulation 1073/2009/EC, which came into force in December 2011, clarified and simplified the rules related to international services. In parallel, a number of Member States have liberalised the provision of domestic services, including Germany, from January 2013, and France, from August 2015.

The aspirations of decision-makers for stations are at an all-time high. Over the last 10-15 years investment in stations has provided new and transformed stations. It is not just London stations that draw decision-makers’ attention and result in quality developments; look at Sheffield, Wakefield, Newcastle and St Helens, for examples of smaller cities and towns seeking railway stations for their community.

Road infrastructure has a very long life if maintained properly, however rapid growth of traffic, and goods vehicles in particular, exert pressures on both the capacity and road pavement performance.
