Steer Davies Gleave are pleased to announce that their work with University of Edinburgh has been recognised in the British Cartographic Society Annual Awards for the Easter Bush Campus Travel Map, in the category of Stanfords Award for Printed Mapping.  The judges commended the entry as it contained a lot of good information clearly drawn, was very easy to use and met the user needs perfectly.

Steer Davies Gleave has been selected to develop new mobility solutions for the East Colfax corridor near downtown Denver. The Colfax Corridor Connections project is an Alternatives Analysis and Environmental Assessment that will examine mobility solutions along a ten-mile corridor which is expected to have a 20-30 per cent increase in transportation/mobility demand in the next 15 years.

Steer Davies Gleave has been appointed by the Via Brugge consortium to provide Lenders’ Technical Advisory (LTA) services, with our report being addressed to potential lenders.

The A11 Brugge in Belgium is a 13km 2-lane highway which completes the ring from the N31 at Brugge and the N49 at Knokke. The connection is of importance to the region because of current congestion and the planned increases in the port of Zeebrugge to the north.

One year on from the start of LSTF funding, local authorities have drawn on our expertise to design, deliver and evaluate personal travel planning (PTP) programmes.

This past year has seen nearly half of local authorities which were successfully awarded with Tranche 1 funding start implementing some element of PTP as part of their bids. Here, we highlight the different ways we have supported our clients' delivery programmes for PTP.

Thurrock Council has commissioned Steer Davies Gleave to deliver PTP and work place travel planning throughout the borough.

Last week’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) announcement has left 29 local authorities gearing up to deliver behaviour change programmes of up to £5m. Meanwhile, the authors of 18 Tranche 2 bids and 13 shortlisted larger projects are left waiting for a decision from DfT. Here we examine what’s left in the pot.

So far, £268m of the original £560m pot has been allocated to authorities across the country, with £155m in Tranche 1 and key components, and £113m so far for Tranche 2.

Local Authorities, through LSTF or other funding sources have clear objectives to encourage more sustainable travel and promote economic growth. Plans to increase walking and cycling levels are commonplace and initiatives and schemes well developed. Similarly there is a history of promotions and incentives to encourage a shift from single occupancy car travel to public transport, particularly for commuter trips.

It is important to recognize that for some trips, car travel will remain the most efficient mode.

With nearly all first round Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) applications containing measures to increase cycling, here we concentrate on two wheels and getting the most from network development, cycle hire, training; and journey planning.
