In February 2015, Conexión Pacífico 3 (CP3) highway project, reached financial close. This USD 648m project is the first to reach financial close in Colombia’s ambitious fourth generation (4G) infrastructure programme, seen by many as one of the most important infrastructure procurement initiatives in Latin America.

We are extremely pleased to announce that Steer Davies Gleave has been recognised as one of the top 100 companies of the year by the New Civil Engineer awards: NCE100 Companies of the Year Awards 2016. 

The NCE100 Companies of the Year Awards recognises and ranks companies for their achievement in five areas that are critical to delivering for clients and making engineering workplaces a great place to be.  
The core themes analysed are: Engineering Equality, Future Engineer, World View, Future Tech and Technical Excellence.

Steer Davies Gleave is working on behalf of Carplus/Bikeplus to evaluate the impacts of a new shared electric bikes programme. The programme, funded by the Department for Transport (DfT), supports the development of eleven projects in cities, rural areas and tourism hotspots in England.

While it’s good to have ambition, there are times when a dose of reality is useful. The reality for cycling is that it represents 2% of trips and 1% of kilometres travelled, and there are lots of reasons why not all trips can be cycled. So while it’s great to aim for the levels of cycling seen in the Netherlands and, nearer to home, in Oxford and Cambridge, at the same time the scale of the task should not be underestimated and setting more realistic, if still tough, targets can sometimes be more productive.

Bikeability Plus is an exciting new initiative, which aims to overcome some of the key barriers to children cycling more often, such as not having access to a bike, not being able to ride, or not having parental permission to cycle. It is a programme of activities which complements the Bikeability cycle training already delivered across England.

Steer Davies Gleave was pleased to support the launch of the ninth Carplus Annual Survey at their Annual Survey of Car Clubs 2016 launch event in London last month.

The Annual Survey of car clubs provides an evidence base for decision-makers on the benefits of car clubs. The Survey collects information from car club members and operators and has been conducted annually since 2007. Steer Davies Gleave has administered and reported on the Survey since 2012, producing three reports for London, England and Wales (excluding London), and Scotland.

London has some of the highest pollution levels in the country. This year it only took the city seven days to breach the pollution limits set by the EU for all of 2016 and recent studies found out that nearly 9,500 people die early each year in London due to long-term exposure to air pollution.
