Solving the ‘chicken and egg’problem of alternative fuels

A phrase much used in the alternative fuels industry is the ‘chicken and egg problem’. Without demand for recharging and refuelling alternative-fuel vehicles there is no case for investment in infrastructure; but without infrastructure to recharge/refuel them, most people will not buy alternative fuelled vehicles. There is a solution to this problem, but it requires action from both the public and private sectors, new and innovative business models, and perhaps most importantly a long-term approach.

A Strategic Cycling Analysis to expand London's cycle network

Transport for London has recently published its Strategic Cycling Analysis report, which draws on innovative data to identify where best to expand London’s cycle network. The analysis takes account of existing and potential cycling demand and growth forecasts to identify where investment in cycling infrastructure could have the biggest impact in terms of growing cycling in the capital. The report gives an indication of where the next Cycle Superhighways, Quietways and Liveable Neighbourhoods will be built over the next ten years.

Steer Davies Gleave is delighted to have been awarded Transport Consultant of the Year at the London Transport Awards 2017.

The London Transport awards, presented by Transport Times, is a prestigious event recognising excellence in the transport industry and rewarding innovation and progress for transport initiatives across London. This year’s event, on the 2nd March at the Riverbank Plaza Hotel in London, saw Steer Davies Gleave honoured in front of an audience of over 500 guests across the transport industry for the quality of our portfolio of projects in London.

TEN-T Days 2016, innovative infrastructure for smart and sustainable mobility

This week, Rotterdam will host the TEN-T Days 2016. The event will bring together all stakeholders playing a key role in delivering the efficient transport network that Europe needs: EU Ministers, Members of the European Parliament, the European Commission, the TEN-T Coordinators, the European Investment Bank, Ministers from Europe’s neighbouring countries and the whole TEN-T stakeholders community including project promoters and private investors.

Competition for £20m Sustainable Travel Transition Year Fund launched

With the multi-year Local Sustainable Transport Fund coming to an end in March, many have been wondering what the future of smarter choices in England might be, and indeed whether there is a future. The prospect of so many excellent projects coming to an end leads us to reflect on what has been achieved. Steer Davies Gleave is proud to have supported a number of authorities deliver their LSTF projects, including developing eight multi-modal journey planners during the LSTF period, delivering significant travel behaviour change.
