Showcasing the benefits of sustainable transport at Rio+20

22 June 2012

Nick Clegg at Rio+20UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg followed the example of Environment Minister Caroline Spelman to ride our bicycle through the streets of major cities around the world. Our interactive stand was part of the UK Pavilion at the recent Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, held in Rio de Janeiro.

The stand included a bicycle linked to a monitor which takes you through the streets of a number of different cities around the world including Santiago, Moscow, Guadalajara and London. The intention is to give you a feeling of the city streets from a cyclist's perspective and to help planners identify improvements that can be made to a city’s cycle network. Find out more about our cycling audits here.

About Rio +20

The Rio+20 Conference brings together world leaders, along with thousands of participants from governments, the private sector, NGOs and other groups, to shape how we can reduce poverty, advance social equality and ensure environmental protection on an ever more crowded planet to get to the future we want. The conference focused on sustainable development; meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
