Investment in rail stations can have a significant impact on economic development through a variety of effects. Using several case studies stake holder consultation and technical analysis, this project examined the linkages and evidence for the relationship between rail station investment and economic development in different contexts throughout the UK.
Essex County Council
Colchester was designated a Cycling Town in 2008 and received funding from Cycling England to encourage residents of the town to increase their cycling. Seven new cycle routes were installed throughout the town along with supporting promotions to increase their use.

Coventry City Council
Over a three year period, almost 16,000 residents were spoken to by Travel Advisors, with almost 50% of those spoken with requesting a tailored travel information pack.
Personal travels planning advisors trained by Steer Davies Gleave targeted 8,667 households in Solihill, offering tailored travel advice to residents with the aim of encouraging local people to switch some trips from driving alone to public transport, cycling or walking.
