Clear selectedForecasting demand for rail freight line
Abu Dhabi
With one of the fastest growing economies in the world, Abu Dhabi is looking at ways to develop further.
To reduce reliance on road transport and to provide efficient transport routes for imports and exports between the Gulf states and Saudi Arabia, the UAE Government has recently investigated building a rail freight line. This would connect Abu Dhabi with the Saudi border, the new port and Jebel Ali, as a first stage to building a railway across all the UAE to connect to Fujayrah.
Our role
Steer Davies Gleave and KPMG were asked to review earlier projections for the whole line, and estimate the impact of a first phase on its own, and extensions to the border with Saudi Arabia.
How we did it
We undertook a comprehensive review of the masterplans produced for proposed port expansions and new development sites.
We then considered the most recent growth prospects per commodity and additional demand that will be generated by several alignment extensions and new industrial development sites served by the line.
